About

Paul Stopler is an artist practicing lost-wax glass casting. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2011, before joining Bristol’s Maze Studios in 2012.

His primary fascination is with the craft of lathe-turning waxes to produce unique cast-glass vessels. The work explores the dialogue between inner and outer surfaces; deeply cut exteriors projecting their changing mass onto internal cores and cut interiors illuminating the vessels exterior with graduating tones and light accents.

For each piece a single colour is chosen for its potential to transmit a range of hues as the colour saturation changes. The vessels are ground and polished to a satin finish, facilitating a soft interior view of light and colour within the glass. Rims are polished to a reflective finish for contrast.
